What we do

Our services

From secure systems engineering to executive-level strategy - and now hands-on agentic AI adoption for software teams.

Agentic AI Adoption New

We help software development companies adopt agentic AI to become dramatically more productive. Agentic AI goes beyond code completion: autonomous coding agents plan, write, test, and review changes across a whole codebase, with engineers directing the work rather than typing every line.

We guide organizations through the full journey: assessing where agents deliver the most value, selecting and configuring tooling, building the knowledge bases and guardrails that make agents effective and safe, integrating agents into code review and continuous integration pipelines, and training teams in the new workflows. Because our roots are in secure systems engineering, we put security and code quality at the center of every adoption plan - agents operate under least-privilege access, with human review gates and measurable quality checks.

Focus areas
Agent-assisted development workflows, prompt and knowledge engineering, secure agent guardrails, team enablement and training, productivity measurement
Outcomes
Faster delivery, higher test coverage, consistent code quality, engineers focused on architecture and product instead of boilerplate

Software Development

Software development is at the core of Level N. Our engineers bring over 50 years of combined experience across the full technology stack, with deep expertise in secure, distributed systems. We build robust, scalable solutions - from low-level C++ libraries to full-stack web platforms - optimized for both performance and security. Project managers apply Agile, Scrum, and behaviour-driven development practices to ensure efficient, on-time delivery.

Bold marks technologies in active use on current projects; the rest we have shipped with and still support.

Strategic Planning

We work with clients to plan technology rollouts spanning multiple years, using impact analyses, executive workshops, and long-term strategic planning. We define Statements of Work and provide executive-level steering and visibility throughout execution.

We worked with Vocado from its inception in 2007 through its acquisition by Oracle in 2017, guiding each phase - from invention and proof of concept to minimum viable product deployment, growth, and operational maturity.

More recently, we led the initial 51-month planning and implementation of EPICS Secure PVAccess, aligning with U.S. government Zero Trust cybersecurity goals. That effort now supports secure deployments at major research institutions worldwide. We are actively engaged in planning the next two-year phase to expand adoption, improve usability, and integrate stronger certificate lifecycle automation.

Our team of experienced strategic planners is at your disposal.

Business Development

We specialize in technical business development for scientific, commercial, and compliance-driven sectors. As your products evolve, we help align your technical roadmap with market needs, regulatory standards, and long-term business goals.

Our team supports scaling efforts by identifying and integrating the right technical talent. We help you adapt to shifting scientific priorities, security standards (such as Zero Trust and NIST), and operational compliance frameworks.

When seeking funding, we assist in preparing the detailed technical components of investment portfolios, ensuring they meet the expectations of both commercial and institutional stakeholders.

Analysis and Design

Our analysts collaborate closely with clients to simplify and architect complex systems, ensuring they meet performance, scientific, regulatory, and cloud infrastructure requirements.

Performance: We have designed high-performance, secure protocols capable of handling hundreds of thousands of concurrent connections. Our work on EPICS Secure PVAccess required balancing low-latency communication with robust TLS encryption and certificate management, ensuring both speed and security.

Scientific: We have developed control systems for linear particle accelerators (SLAC) and Alkyl MOCVD equipment for microchip fabrication (Cambridge Instruments). Currently, we are advancing the next-generation SoftIOC for EPICS PVXS, aiming to supersede EPICS Base with a modern, secure, and extensible architecture.

Regulatory: Our designs comply with U.S. government Zero Trust cybersecurity initiatives, as outlined in NIST SP 800-207. This includes implementing dynamic, least-privilege access controls, continuous authentication, and microsegmentation to protect critical infrastructure and sensitive data.

Cloud: We have conducted comprehensive analyses of on-premises and bare-metal deployments to facilitate seamless transitions to cloud-based infrastructures, ensuring scalability, resilience, and compliance with evolving security standards.
